Karlovy Wary

Switch to Russian

There You can see some photos I had taken in Karlovy Wary (June 2000).

Orthodoxy Cross

Some people write on the walls and stones "There was Mr.So-and-So" to mark they were there. And one serbish bishop leave here a big orthodoxy cross instead that. I think that's far better.

And that cross has the whole legendary story. When Peter the Great was in Karlovy Wary he said he will ride up the hill on the horse (he liked to do what nobody else tried). But the horse cannot go up itself and of course, with emperor on the back. Peter does not turn back - he had taken the horse (as is said - on his own back) and bring it up. The cross is at the place that was reached by russian emperor (and this place was claimed as russian).

At the left photo is the cross of Peter the Great on the hill. And at the right is head of Peter made of stone, placed near the cross.

Left is little pavillon on the hill (photo taken from cross of Peter). Right (and above) - looks from this pavillon.
